Hat-trick for the V8 Renault in Monaco

Renault had achieved its greatest performance during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, seeing three cars powered by its V8 place in the first three places on the starting grid. This Sunday, Mark Webber retained his first place while Sebastian Vettel passed Robert Kubica for the second step on the podium. In the end, the French engine proved reliable and very efficient to achieve this historic hat-trick.

Indeed, Renault achieved a remarkable performance which had not occurred since the 1997 Luxembourg Grand Prix. During this race, the Renault engine monopolized the first four places, thanks to the victory of Jacques Villeneuve (Williams-Renault) ahead of Jean Alesi (Benetton-Renault), Heinz-Harald Frentzen (Williams-Renault) and Gerhard Berger (Benetton-Renault). The previous “real” hat-trick dates from the British Grand Prix of the same year, thanks to Villeneuve, Alesi and Alexander Wurz (Benetton-Renault).

« We are delighted within the engine team, says Fabrice Lom, responsible for operating the French V8 at Red Bull Racing. We are very proud to be part of Red Bull Racing, which is really excellent, and we are very proud to be part of Renault Sport, which has given us a very good engine for this circuit with excellent tuning. We couldn't hope for better than a hat-trick. We are also well placed in both championships. It's a perfect day. »

If Renault F1 Team did not win, the team of?enstone placed Robert Kubica on the podium. Rémi Taffin, head of engine operations within the Renault F1 Team, is also pleased with the Monegasque result. “ We must congratulate the Renault engines for their hat-trick today. From an engine point of view, there were no problems with our V8s, as one finished its second race, the other its third race. »
