Three penalty places for Gasly on the grid

No, we're not replaying the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix for you. Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) once again received a penalty to be used on the starting grid, this time for the Monaco Grand Prix (start 15:10 p.m. Sunday May 26). The Frenchman was found guilty of embarrassing Romain Grosjean (Haas) at the end of Q2 on Saturday.

Launched into a fast lap, the latter fell on Pierre Gasly after the Casino corner. The commissioners of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile analyzed the incident as follows. “The driver of car number 8 (Grosjean) had to brake suddenly to avoid a collision with car number 10 (Gasly), who was riding on the trajectory during a preparation lap.

At this point, the #8 car was clearly the only one to complete a fast lap in this area, and even though the stewards accepted that (Pierre Gasly) probably had no chance of seeing the #8 car in this series of turns, the team admitted that they had failed to warn him. »

Pierre Gasly therefore did not know that Romain Grosjean was approaching at high speed. “The stewards decided that the No. 10 car unnecessarily blocked the No. 8 car and imposes a penalty of three places and a deduction of one point on the license. » This three points removed from Norman’s license in one year.

The new Red Bull recruit will therefore start from eighth place on Sunday. “We can see that things are improving,” the person concerned preferred to be positive. There is obviously still performance to be found”, given his teammate's third time Max Verstappen

The 2016 GP2 Series champion is counting on the weather to grab places in the race. “There is a chance of rain on Sunday, that wouldn’t bother me, especially on this track. This could make things very interesting. We are quite good at long runs, but our best opportunity will be at the start. »
