The start of this 2025 season is confirmation that McLaren has finally found stability after a long dry spell. Having won the title last year after a 26-year drought, the Woking team was apprehensive about this new season, fearing it would not be able to continue after regaining its former glory in 2024.

It is clear that Zak Brown and his men are finally and almost logically in the continuity of their Constructors' title by dominating head and shoulders this start of the campaign. Whether in Australia or in China (except for the Sprint won by Lewis Hamilton), the Oranges have always imposed their law. Lando Norris signed the pole-victory double in Melbourne and his teammate Oscar piastri imitated it a week later in China.

McLaren thus secured a third consecutive victory, including the one in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2024, which went to Lando Norris, the current championship leader. A series that Woking had not witnessed for more than 10 years, 13 to be precise.

To find evidence of such a chain of events, we have to go back to the 2012 season when the McLarens were still chrome-plated and powered by the thermal V8s of MercedesAt the time, it was Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button who won the Hungarian, Belgian and Italian Grands Prix, with the future seven-time world champion sweeping the Hungaroring and Monza while his teammate and compatriot won at Spa-Francorchamps.

Now, the English team can consider a fourth consecutive victory in a few days in Japan (April 4-4). This is something unheard of at Woking since Ayrton Senna in 6 when he had a perfect start to the season by winning at Phoenix, Interlagos, San Marino and Monaco. The record is 1991 consecutive victories for McLaren, which was in 11, driven by Alain Prost and the Brazilian who will see only one round out of the 16 on the program escape them (Monza). Will Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri be able to imitate them almost 40 years later?
