First driver qualified in Q3 to have tried the challenge of soft tires in Sochi this Saturday, George Russell (Williams) saw his efforts rewarded at the end of the session with the 3rd absolute time behind Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Lando Norris (McLaren) only.
« It's crazy, he said straight away with a smile on his face. This is the second time in the last 4 qualifiers that I have been in the Top 3. The team once again did a fantastic job stopping me at the right time to put the correct tires on. It was tricky on the track afterwards given that there was only one dry trajectory. If you went a few centimeters offshore you immediately found yourself in the wet ».
Always a team effort 🤜🤛

Third in qualifying, George Russell is now focusing on his Sunday and the battle that awaits him against Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz, and even Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), at the beginning. “ I look forward (of the race tomorrow), enthuses the Briton. On the dry yesterday (Friday) we had a very good pace, undoubtedly one of the best of the year. I'm still far from those (Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. Editor’s note). There are also the Mercedes who will start behind so it will be a good battle at the start. We will try to fight for the podium again, we have nothing to lose ».
