Tsunoda will make his F1 debut with AlphaTauri on November 4 at Imola

Is this the first step towards promotion in Formula 1 ? Yuki tsunoda will make its debut aboard a car Grand Prix with Alpha Tauri on November 4 in Imola. The 20-year-old driver will drive an old Faenza car, as required by the regulations.

Despite the announced departure of Honda at the end of 2021, the Japanese, currently 3rd in the championship Formula 2 44 points behind the leader Mick Schumacher, remains in the small papers of Red Bull and tipped for promotion to the premier category next year. 

At the Nürburgring last week, Honda F1 chief executive Masashi Yamamoto said Tsunoda's hopes of joining the F1 ranks were not linked to Honda supplying powertrains to Red Bull and AlphaTauri and that the Japanese firm would continue to support its hopes. 

« I don't think our departure will have an impact at this level., Yamamoto-san pointed out. Red Bull is master of its destiny when it comes to its industry. His results in F2 will be evaluated and, for our part, we will support him as much as we can. » 

« We currently have two fast drivers with Pierre (gasly) and Daniel (Kvyat), but we will do a test with Yuki, added Franz Tost, the loyal main team of AlphaTauri. This has nothing to do with Honda's decision not to continue after 2021. Red Bull's philosophy is still performance. »
