A taste of 2017 for Jolyon Palmer

Still in uncertainty before the Brazilian Grand Prix about his future in F1, Jolyon Palmer now looks forward to the 2017 season with optimism. Confirmed within the Renault Sport F1 Team alongside the German Nico Hulkenberg, which will replace Kevin Magnussen gone to Haas F1 Team, the former GP2 Series champion, has also started work for the next campaign with the French team.

While the season finale will take place in Abu Dhabi in just over a week, the Briton tried his hand at the future replacement for the R.S.16 in the simulator. An encouraging first glimpse.

“I saw the wind tunnel model and it looks great, admits Palmer. It's going to be a nice car. I drove it on the simulator and it goes very quickly. Of course, the new rules are the same for everyone, and we won't know where we stand compared to our rivals until we hit the track in Barcelona, but the speeds are higher, the car is more difficult to drive and I think there will be a great spectacle in racing next year. »

Concerning the 2017 objectives, Palmer sees the arrival of a new driver in the person of Nico Hülkenberg, as a positive development for Renault. “I haven’t had the chance to get to know Nico yet, Palmer comments.

Everything I have heard about him has been nothing but positive and I have confidence in the team that they have chosen the right drivers for next year and beyond. He is a highly regarded and very hardworking pilot.

I'm really happy to continue with the team, and this will be my third season with enstone. I learned a lot this year and I think the second half of 2016 was more consistent. »
