A final difficult turn to tame for Nico Rosberg

Revised and corrected this year, the last corner of the Sepang track played tricks on Nico Rosberg in qualifying this Saturday. During his first attempt in Q3, the German driver Mercedes made a small error which largely compromised his chances of competing for pole position with his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

“I would have liked to be closer, but unfortunately I made a mistake in the last corner, admits the son of the 1982 world champion. Something was wrong on that last turn. I couldn't find the right settings and I still had a lot of oversteer.

As we know, second place does not mean victory is impossible tomorrow. We have seen it so many times. I still remain very optimistic for the race. »

Rosberg also believes that the tire strategy will ultimately not be of major importance, despite the resurfaced track and the weather conditions. “It maybe also depends on the temperatures, but I don't think it's going to be very exciting from a strategy point of view because the tires are quite similar. This will not be a deciding factor. »
