An unforgettable Grand Prix for Alonso

At the end of the Malaysian Grand Prix where the cards were redistributed with the arrival of rain, Fernando Alonso shines once again by winning the 28th victory of his career and taking the lead in the Championship at the wheel of a F2012 lacking performance. The Asturian, who resisted the attacks of the impressive Sergio Perez (Sauber), does not hide his surprise. “This victory is really a big surprise”, admits the winner. ?We weren?t competitive in Australia and here and the aim was to get as many points as possible. We mark 25 today, which is incredible. It was superb work from the team who maximized our potential from the pits. We had good qualifications (8th place) and we remained calm in these extreme conditions. We changed tires at the perfect time. I congratulate them, they deserve this result. I will remember this Sunday. »

Despite this victory, the double world champion keeps his feet on the ground, being aware that the F2012 does not currently allow him to fight for the title even if he occupies the lead in the Championship. The Spaniard hopes to benefit from car more efficient in three weeks at the Shanghai meeting on April 15. “To be honest, it doesn’t change anything”, he adds. “We are not in a desirable position as we are still fighting to be in Q3. We want to fight for poles and victories. Being lacking in performance at the start of the season, we do not want to lose too many points on the leaders. These results are positive at the end of these two races, but there is still a lot of work to be done for China, Bahrain and Barcelona. »
