A failing MGU-H at Pierre Gasly

Before the start of the Australian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly highlighted the reduction in the number of elements making up the Power Unit in 2018, confessing that the three engines constituted a real difficulty.

And it’s an understatement to say that the first race of the year does not open the season in the best possible way for Pierre Gasly. The Norman was thus the victim of a failure of the MGU-H of the Honda Power Unit of his STR13 during the Grand Prix and was unable to see the finish for his first event contested at Albert Park.

“After turn 12, the engine stopped, explains the former GP2 champion. He took off again, but I was really slow and couldn't pick up speed. I tried to come back to the pits, then I was told to stop. »

A start to the season which literally contrasts with the winter testing, where the Italian-Japanese team encountered no major problems during the eight days of testing in Barcelona.

“I think everyone in the team is disappointed to have a problem in the first race but we have to look at the positives and learn from the negatives to come back stronger in Bahrain. » confesses Gasly.
