A new three-year cycle for Racing Point according to Otmar Szafnauer

Between now and the arrival ofAston Martin on the grid in 2021, which will encompass the current Racing Point F1, the training led by Otmar Szafnauer will have to face a 2020 campaign largely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Like all the teams, the English entity is at a standstill and awaiting decisions from Liberty Media and the FIA on a potential resumption of the championship. Behind this table, Racing Point is already aiming to begin its transformation for 2021 and the transition to “Aston Martin Racing”.

A new factory is notably part of the team's plans, which does not hide certain ambitions, as its Team Principal reminds us.

“It’s probably a three-year plan for us, specifies Szafnauer on the F1 website. Building the factory will take a few years, and hiring the right people will take a few years, and during this transition phase you won't be 100% where you want to be.

So it's a three-year plan, but every year we should get better, we should never go backwards. NOTOur goal is to get into the top 3 and be competitive at that level and have a chance to win races and be on the podium regularly.

Even if we're not in the top three, let's say the top three will become the top four and we'll be a part of it, or even the top five and someone else joins us. »

The future regulation in question

Decided to provide more competitive races, the future F1 technical regulations have already been pushed back to 2022, to better manage the situation resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, particularly on a financial level.

Otmar Szafnauer even highlights the possibility of re-studying the introduction of this change. « If we show that we have very good races with the cars we have now, it would be prudent to consider delaying (the future regulation) of another year or to review the concept as a whole, indicates the manager.

And so to say that what we have now is not that bad, and if you don't change the regulations, you end up saving money. These days we should do everything we can to try to spend less. »
