A welcome “reset” for McLaren before the Nürburgring

So all that remains is Mercedes and Racing Point as teams to have scored at least one point at each 2020 Grand Prix. With zero points, its first this year, McLaren experienced a serious setback in Russia during the last event of the world championship.

It's first Carlos Sainz who sprays his car in the escape route of the first turn, before Lando Norris, passing over the debris littering the track, stopped at the end of the first loop to put on the hard tires, before observing a second stop removing all hope of points.

A race to forget for the Woking clan which intends to bounce back this weekend at the Nürburgring, to relaunch the race for third place in the Manufacturers' standings, where the fight rages with Racing Point and Renault.

“We had the chance to “reset”, prepare and focus on this race in Germany, comments Andreas Seidl, McLaren Team Principal. As a team we are determined to come back stronger, but we know our rivals will be aiming for good points. »

The MCL35 single-seaters hope to be able to better highlight the developments made in Russia, but where the racing scenario did not allow the English team to demonstrate the merits of these developments.

“We will continue to improve the car and aim to improve performance during the rest of the season, continues Seidl. We must continue to consolidate our strengths, work on our weaknesses, be mentally resilient and attack as a unified team in the fight for points. »

A German meeting which will also be a discovery in F1 for the two drivers Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, who certainly know the Eifel track having practiced it in the lower categories, but never in F1, the last Grand Prix contested at the Nürburgring dating back to 2013.
