Resurfacing but no changes to the Miami Grand Prix route

Several new features have been announced in Miami © Grand Prix de Miami

The Miami Grand Prix is (already) getting a makeover. After a first edition that was certainly successful on a festive level but contrasting on a sporting level, the organizers announced several changes for the next appearance of the Formula 1, from May 5 to 7.

At track level, the layout will remain unchanged, which means that the much-maligned chicane of turns 14-15 is maintained. This narrow section which sneaks under a highway was strongly criticized by the pilots last year due to its complexity and dangerousness. However, a complete resurfacing of the circuit will be implemented. During the Grand Prix, the lack of grip off the line was also pointed out by the entire grid. The organizers hope “increase the spectacle of the race in 2023 by making it easier for drivers to overtake. » The Tilke company was commissioned to carry out this resurfacing.

Big news for 2023: the paddock will now be installed within the Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami Dolphins stadium will be designed to accommodate the 10 Formula 1 teams as well as the motorhomes from F1, the FIA and Pirelli.

Miami is getting a makeover (like many Floridians who have been lifted and/or botoxed)? Not really because beyond the resurfacing of the track and the failure to take into account the comments of the drivers, everything is done for those ready to work as hard as possible "to be there" (paddock in the Hard Rock Stadium, Paddock Club of 17.000 m² to accommodate more than 6 wealthy guests in high-end suites...). Be careful, the frantic search for dollars could one day turn against the organizers!!
