A “hard” team building for Esteban Ocon and his team

From his first test session with the American team, in Abu Dhabi at the end of last year, Esteban Ocon seemed very comfortable in his new environment. The French driver continued this adaptation work, essential for him in order to give the maximum of his potential. Speaking to Canal+, the Norman explained to what extent this human aspect was just as important for performance as the level of the car, saying he wanted to create a "family" around him and his racing engineer Laura Müller.

"For me, the important thing is that we are ready, all motivated, that we form a big family with Laura, Sacha, Mike, all the people who make up my little team for car No. 31, the mechanics too. It is extremely important that we are all united, that we understand each other well and that the different parties manage to get what they want at certain times. At certain times it can be difficult, with pressure, lack of time, you have to know how to tell the truth when it is difficult to say it too. It is something that we are managing to do for the moment."

To increase the cohesion on his side of the garage, Esteban Ocon invited his engineers and mechanics to share a training program with him. A program that was undoubtedly different from what was expected, since it involved a session of… caving!

"We did a training camp at my training center where we were able to work on a lot of things, we all put ourselves in difficult situations, stressful, claustrophobic by caving together. We all had to help each other to get through tricky spots. It was interesting for me to understand how we all react in situations like this. We worked, we are now ready to go riding, which is the best part, I much prefer that to being stuck in a rock cave with a 40cm hole to climb through!"
