A race to forget for Nico Rosberg

Already behind in qualifying, Nico Rosberg went through the Monaco Grand Prix without shining this Sunday. Second in the first moments, the German was forced to give up his position against Lewis Hamilton by order of the stable Mercedes.

“It was a simple decision to accept the team's request to let Lewis pass, even if it hurt at the time. I was very far off the pace and Lewis very clearly had the speed to win for the team. We have always had this rule: if you are in front and the other has a chance to win, you give him that chance. »

The championship leader admitted not having found the right formula with his tires, while being upset by a brake temperature problem. His end of the race was marked by the loss of sixth place in the last meters against Hulkenberg.

“I didn’t have the pace to fight for victory and we need to understand why. Maybe it was a brake problem, but I don't know for sure yet. I didn't feel able to push to the limit at the start of the race on the wet tires.

At the end, Nico (Hülkenberg) had soft tires in better condition and my ultra-softs were dead. I lost temperature with the return of the rain and I lost grip, which allowed him to pass. »
