To keep the spectators seated in the stadium stands at the Mexico circuit busy during the Mexican Grand Prix (October 28-30), the organizers have planned an “all-stars” race to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the event.

A dozen former drivers from Champ Car andIndyCar will find themselves behind the wheel of single-seaters equipped with a 8 horsepower V500 that Mexicans are used to seeing in the Gran Turismo Mexico Series.

This is a nod to the Champ Car race which was held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez between 2002 and 2007, before the track fell into disrepair until the return of the Formula 1 in 2015.

Five Mexicans who had the chance to compete at home, and will be entered in this gala race: Adrian Fernandez, Mario Dominguez, Michel Jourdain Jr, Roberto Gonzalez and Luis Diaz.

Winner of the Champ Car event in 2003, the fiery Canadian Paul Tracy will also be back, as will Mark Blundell, Alex Tagliani, Oriol Servia, Max Papis, Bruno Junqueira and Casey Mears.

“Before hosting Formula 1 in Mexico, we used to promote the Champ Car World Series at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and it was as big as F1 these days, said Federico González, general director of the Mexico Grand Prix. Being able to bring all these legends together for a unique event here is a huge privilege for us and for the Mexican fans. We are sure that the Freightliner Legends Cup will be a successful event at this year's race. It will be a very special event to bring together great drivers who have given us unforgettable moments in the past. »
