La Team does not admit defeat for 2021. The legendary Italian team is currently preparing an improvement on its V6 turbo hybrid engine, which must be used during the second half of the season.

In fact, the teams of Formula 1 are limited to one upgrade of each component of the power unit. Until the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc et Carlos Sainz Jr used an engine block interspersed with 2020 and 2021 parts. This will soon be ancient history.

Mattia Binotto, the boss of the Reds, explained this to the official F1 website. “We will bring development to the power unit (PU). You can have a completely new engine block in 2021. This means you can make an update in every component of that engine – the ICE (internal combustion engine), turbo, MGU-H, batteries, MGU-K, etc.

What we did at the start of the season is we didn't complete the full development of the powertrain. So there are still components from last year. We will bring about an evolution of these. This will be an important step for us at the end of the season. But the most important thing for us will be the experience stored for 2022.”

Ferrari is third in the Constructors' Championship, tied on points with McLaren (powered by Mercedes) while there are still 12 events to go.
