A day of short stints at McLaren

One of the teams that drove the most last week in Catalonia, McLaren did not sign as many rounds as Mercedes this Wednesday for the resumption of winter testing F1.

Between them, Carlos Sainz et Lando Norris completed 103 laps, which remains a very honorable record compared to the competition. But the kilometer accumulation was not in Woking's plans today anyway.

“Today's focus was not on mileage, but to review some updates and tuning options, confirms Andrea Stella, McLaren competition director.

The conditions were a little more complicated than the previous days (with a fairly strong wind in Barcelona, Editor’s note), but we were still able to validate our program and obtain precise information. »

Regularly appearing on the track with the famous aero measuring devices, the MCL35 multiplied the short stints on the track during the eight hours on the menu.

“We focused our morning on studying new aerodynamic parts for the car, explains Sainz in detail. The program was very intense and by changing the parts, we weren't able to do as many laps as last week. »

“We changed the car a bit since last week in areas where we thought we needed to improve, and the settings were also slightly different, continues Norris. For this reason, we still had to do a few more runs, focused on aerodynamics. »

The two Woking drivers, confined to rather repetitive work this Wednesday, can rest assured, the McLaren program should evolve over the last two days, with a menu that should delight them, since we should see the orange and blue single-seaters go and tease the chrono.

“We plan to study performance and long runs a little more over the next few days. » thus says Andrea Stella. And thus see the real progress of the British car?
