A dark day for Grosjean and Ocon

The French were not successful in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. If Romain Grosjean managed to take 12th place, his teammate Esteban Gutiérrez did better by placing a Haas in Q3 for the first time this season. The former GP2 champion will especially have to move back five places on the grid following a gearbox change.

“It’s a m… There was a spin this morning, the gearbox broke. We paid for not being able to drive during the last practice session. It's a good thing that Esteban is in Q3, but the tire pressures to go to the Moon are really punishing. A 17th position on the grid is in any case not ideal”, confided Romain Grosjean at the microphone of Canal+.

His compatriot was not more successful since he was not even able to set a time in Q1. The Manor driver was again the victim of an electrical problem already encountered during testing.

“The car just stopped. The dashboard went out, the engine stopped... I no longer had any information. This is similar to the problem we encountered yesterday, but we will investigate this in detail so that it does not happen again tomorrow.”, explained the rookie.

“It makes qualifying really frustrating. We know the potential of car. I was fast during all the tests, especially this morning, and that's why I expected good things from qualifying. Pascal (Wehrlein, 13th on the grid with Romain Grosjean's penalty) proved that the car was competitive and I congratulate him. Now I have to turn this frustration into energy for the race,” added Esteban Ocon.
