A major fight between Toro Rosso and Haas
In the three-way battle for sixth place in the Constructors' Championship, Toro Rosso, Renault et Haas are grouped into six points before the Brazilian Grand Prix contested this weekend at Interlagos. A position of importance, particularly on a financial level. Currently sixth, the Toro Rosso team knows that defending its achievements will not be the easiest task, particularly against the Renault RS 17s of Carlos Sainz et Nico Hulkenberg.

“The objective at the end of the season is to extract the maximum potential from the car, highlights Pierre Gasly. Objectively, we know that it is complicated to sign a Top 10 with our current level of competitiveness. Other teams like Renault or McLaren have made enormous progress on their car and we are behind in terms of performance.

Afterwards, we have sixth place in the Manufacturers' championship to defend and we know how crucial it is for the team and can influence the development of the car next year. You have to try to put yourself in a position where, if opportunities present themselves, you are able to seize them. Scoring one or two points at the end of the season can make a big difference in terms of the team's budget. And that adds extra performance to the car.

If I continue with Toro Rosso in 2018, it is certain that I want to have the best possible package and that requires the maximum resources, hence the importance of maintaining this sixth place among the Manufacturers, even if the challenge is size announcement. »

Haas in ambush

Despite two races finishing outside the points in the United States and Mexico, Romain Grosjean keeps in sight the objective of this ranking for the structure of Gene Haas, even if the results of the second part of the championship were below the expectations of the American clan.

“We know that Renault is performing better than us in the last few races even if they perhaps did not score as many points as they should have, admits the French pilot. Toro Rosso, we can potentially go and get them. We are going to do everything for the last two races of the season. Finishing sixth at the end of our second campaign in F1, that would be extraordinary.

There was no success this year and we lacked success. For example in Melbourne, we should have finished sixth or seventh normally and we lost the engine. We didn't get a boost like last year in Bahrain where everything worked wonderfully or even the red flag in Australia.

Overall, over the first part of the season, we were much more consistent than last year. On the second part, we encountered more difficulties. We have to sit down at the end of the season to take stock. There are always several explanations, several possibilities. What is certain is that out of the first 10 grands prix, I entered Q3 seven times while we struggled to reach Q2 over the last four rounds. »
