A new approach to the tracks in 2017 according to McLaren

The wait continues to discover the new 2017 single-seaters, which will evolve largely with the change in technical regulations introduced by the governing bodies of the F1.

If the car modification areas are known, the tracks hosting the championship events will require a revised approach for the engineers according to Tim Goss, the technical director of McLaren-Honda.

“A consequence is that we will no longer classify certain turns as “turns”, explains Goss on the McLaren website. What we mean by that is that engineers define a corner as an area on the track where the driver must take their foot off the gas and essentially control their car.

If he goes through a corner, and his foot is fully on the accelerator, we classify him as a straight line. As the new cars go faster, some of the 2016 corners will be classified as straights. »

Tim Goss also confirmed that Honda had significantly reworked the architecture and layout of the V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit supplied to McLaren.
