Time passes and the world advances, as does technology. And the Formula 1 don't escape it. In Canada, the discipline will inaugurate a historic first thanks to AI: in fact, the trophy which will be awarded to the winner on Sunday will have been designed by a generative AI. A practice which is spreading more and more (unfortunately?) in the world of art and sport: for example, the 2024 poster for the Roland-Garros tournament, which is currently taking place, was created by the artist Paul Rousteau thanks to AI.

The trophy was produced in collaboration with Amazon Web Service (AWS) – partner of Formula 1 since 2018 and title sponsor of the Canadian GP – and is inspired by the research carried out for the development of the 1 F2022 car, where the technology of AWS cloud was used to help formulate the car's design. This one depicts the aerodynamic slipstream of an F1 car with details that celebrate Canada, including a maple leaf and Montreal's St. Lawrence River.

The trophy was made by a UK-based goldsmith, merging new technology with historic F1 traditions. It will be revealed on Sunday, ahead of the Grand Prix.

“For over six years, AWS has been an invaluable partner, revolutionizing the use of data to improve the way we operate across sport, underlines Emily Prazer, commercial director of Formula 1. Our worlds continue to merge as we turn to game-changing technologies, like generative AI, to elevate both the on-track competition and the off-the-track experience for fans. AWS's commitment to innovation allows us to help advance the sport and we're excited to see the first-ever generative AI-designed trophy on display in Canada this weekend and give fans the opportunity to show their love of F1 by designing their own trophy. »

Formula 1 and AWS also launched a competition for the most curious who will have the opportunity to create their own trophy using generative AI. The reward ? A trip to attend a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2025.
