Under Dantesque conditions, both Alpine are used to shining. In Canada, Fernando Alonso had managed to climb to the front row at the start of the Grand Prix. But at Silverstone, Esteban Ocon failed to take advantage of the rain. If the changing conditions trapped many pilots, the Norman was also not helped by his car.

During Q2, the driver Alpine suffered a loss of power linked to a battery cooling problem. A mechanical problem which partly explains the 8 tenths which separate it from Daniel Ricciardo, 14th. “ It was a delicate day for us. A loss of power linked to a battery problem at the start of Q2 prevented us from being competitive. We end the session with the fifteenth time, which is not ideal for tomorrow's race », explains Esteban Ocon.

Despite this elimination in Q2, the Norman remains hopeful of obtaining a good result at the end of the British Grand Prix. “ However, I remain positive, because we have already come further this year and that has not stopped us from scoring points. So this will be the objective tomorrow », Announces the native of Évreux (Eure).

Ocon, top 10 target at Silverstone

If the Frenchman has managed to move up the grid several times this season like in Miami, the Silverstone track could make his task easier. “ We are currently analyzing the problem and I am sure the team will sort it out and we will be in good shape for the race. Here at Silverstone it is possible to overtake, so we will have to take every opportunity to get a good result. »

This elimination in Q2 still remains a disappointment for Alpine which has made further improvements to the A522 at Silverstone. “ It's been quite a difficult weekend here at Silverstone so far due to variable weather conditions. We are slightly disappointed with our qualifying result. Esteban was unlucky, his battery was too cold for him to use it fully », analyzes Otmar Szafnauer, the Team Principal of the French team.

With Fernando Alonso who will start in 7th row and Esteban Ocon in ambush, Alpine wants to succeed in bringing home points with the two single-seaters at Silverstone. “ We are happy with the improvements made, we managed to understand them better and collect additional data thanks to the dry tests we carried out this weekend, underlines Otmar Szafnauer. We're looking forward to tomorrow's race, where the goal will once again be to have both cars in the top 10 at the checkered flag, and I don't see why that goal wouldn't be achievable. » If the battery problems are resolved on the Frenchman's single-seater, the double finish in the points seems to be within the capacity ofAlpine. Unless the weather conditions once again trap the pilots.
