While Fernando Alonso took the light with his 2nd place in qualifying, behind, Haas was also at the party. The American team took possession of the third row on the grid for the Canadian Grand Prix, with Magnussen 5th and Schumacher 6th. A first since the 2018 German Grand Prix, which was also at the time the best overall qualification for Günther Steiner's team.

At the end of excellent qualifying in the rain, Haas equals its historic record and could collect its first points since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Kevin Magnussen explained that the VF-22 was at home in wet conditions. “It was a good session. I like these conditions, and this year our car seems to like them too”, said the Danish pilot. “We had similar conditions in Imola and we got 4th place (in qualifying) and this time we got P5, so it's a lot of fun. We just have to try to take advantage of it tomorrow. This will definitely help our chances of scoring points. »

Magnussen highlighted the team spirit of the American team during qualifying in Montreal. “In conditions like these, it’s a real team effort. Communication is so important, and I got everything I needed today (…) So it was a really good effort from the whole team. »

Schumacher does not see Haas “going higher” during the Grand Prix

On the other side of the garage, it is also a qualification to be set in stone for Schumacher. The German signed the best session of his career, with a 6th place. Despite this top 6, the son of the seven-time world champion thought there was more to look for. “ It was pretty good, but we still didn't maximize what we could... We had to abort a lap because of traffic and then the track and tires got cold, which I didn't want. »

“But I'm very happy with 6th place, it's a good position to start in tomorrow's race”, added Schumacher. The young 23-year-old driver believes that his car cannot hope for better performance on Sunday. “I don't see us going any higher, just because of the pace that most of the cars have around us, but we're going to do our best. »

The German driver is still looking for his first point in Formula 1, while Haas has seen its score stuck at 15 points in the championship for 4 races. In America, Gene Haas' team hopes to finally increase this score.
