USF1 in full confidence

USF1, one of the four teams to enter the next world championship of Formula 1, is undoubtedly the one that worries observers the most. Ross Brwan (Mercedes GP) had even expressed his surprise that the team had not planned internal crash tests before responding to those required by the FIA.

But, interviewed this week by AUTOhebdo, Ken Anderson, co-founder of the team, wanted to be reassuring. For him, USF1 respects its schedule, even if the other teams (Lotus, Campos) which will start in Formula 1 seem to be moving faster. “ Thanks to the work of our design office and with the help of our technical partners, the car has progressed enormously on a virtual level over the last twelve months. »

« With this virtual design, we can test and be sure that we are on the right track structurally from our chassis, engineering, continues Ken Anderson. We are close to moving into the construction phase. We are on schedule with our first chassis in November and a car which will be completed in time to be ready for testing in February 2010. »

In terms of drivers, the American team also seems further behind than its direct competitors. There are many applicants but the avenues are vague and there is still no certainty. “ The most important thing for us is to work with drivers who have F1 experience, simply because the regulations have significantly reduced the number of testing days., adds Ken Anderson. Pedro de la Rosa is on our list. His F1 experience would be a huge asset for us. Our list has about twelve names. They are all excellent pilots who can bring us a lot. Choosing two or three among them is not going to be easy… » In addition, the co-founder shares the contacts that have been established with pilots such as Jacques Villeneuve and Franck Montagny.

On the other hand, in terms of sponsorship, Ken Anderson is more positive. “ Our project has garnered incredible support across the United States with a large number of positive sponsorship responses. Important American companies are joining us. For example, two brands of energy drinks want to appear on our cars. This interest in our stable also goes beyond just American companies. Our estimated budget is around $56 million and we managed to raise it. » It is therefore with certain certainties that USF1 will launch into Formula 1 next season.
