Valsecchi aims for place at Lotus F1 Team

Davide Valsecchi dreamed of a starting place in F1 after winning his GP2 Series title with the Dams team. The Italian had hopes with the uncertainty surrounding Romain Grosjean on his reappointment within the teamenstone, a doubt which lasted until mid-December when the team finally made the French official official for the 2013 season. The dreams of the French driver's successor in the lower discipline vanished at the same time, most of the other teams having have already announced their drivers.

If the extension of Romain Grosjean's contract at Lotus puts a damper on Davide Valsecchi's ambitions, the latter is now eyeing the position of Lotus reserve driver currently occupied by Jérôme d'Ambrosio who is celebrating his 27th birthday today. “At the moment, I am working for the third driver position within the Lotus team”, admitted the Italian on Italiaracing. “I thought I would succeed in finding the financial support that would have allowed me to find a team for 2013, but the various opportunities fell away. He (Romain Grosjean) deserved it because he proved that he is very fast. My only hope is to become their third driver, which wouldn't be a bad thing considering Lotus is the fourth best team in the world. »
