Valtteri Bottas on pole position in Abu Dhabi

Mercedes confirmed his domination seen in free practice during the qualifying session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The German brand has monopolized the first line with Valtteri Bottas before Lewis Hamilton, for a fifteenth pole in 2017 for the star.

Mercedes had already dominated Q1 and Q2 with the Finn then the Briton, but it was Bottas who took the first shot in Q3 with a first attempt in 1'36 "231, 172 thousandths ahead of Hamilton Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) then follows at six tenths, Kimi Räikkönen at more than seven tenths.

Second attempts won't change anything for pole as Lewis Hamilton fails to improve with a mistake in the final corner, allowing Bottas the luxury of not completing his final attempt.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) finishes third and will start alongside his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), who improved under the checkered flag. Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) will be grouped on the fourth row.

Nico Hulkenberg best place Renault in seventh place ahead of the two Force Indias of Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon. For his last career qualifying session, Felipe Massa (Williams) achieves the tenth time.

Romain Grosjean frustrated

Fernando Alonso (McLaren) fails to place an MCL32 in the top 10 and will start eleventh in front Carlos Sainz (Renault), Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Lance stroll (Williams).

In the rest of the classification, Romain Grosjean (Haas) was unable to exceed the Q1 mark on the Yas Marina Circuit. The Frenchman from the American team was eliminated at the very end of the first part of qualifying by Lance Stroll, the Canadian ahead of the former Lotus driver by 13 thousandths.

Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso), Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) and Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso) complete the grid. The New Zealander was penalized ten places for using a ninth MGU-H on the Renault Power Unit of his Toro Rosso.
