Valtteri Bottas hoped for better championship position

If 33 points separate today Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) of the world championship leader Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), the Finnish driver did not miss his debut with the German team.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton remains the Maranello driver's main rival for the world crown, but unlike the Ferrari clan where Kimi Räikkönen is well behind in the championship, Mercedes can count on its two frontrunners in the pursuit of crowns.

A position which could be important in the races of the second part of the championship, even if Bottas hoped to be closer to the first places at the end of these first eleven rounds.

« I was hoping to be in a slightly better position in the championship, underlines Bottas, cited by ESPN. I think we are still good in terms of points in the Manufacturers' standings, but nWe had some difficult races, which is not ideal and only victory is good enough for the team. That will always be the target. We definitely have work to do and I have work to do. »

Towards a better Bottas

Called up at the very start of the year to replace the starter Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas was able to achieve two victories in Russia and Austria, while showing great consistency since Canada, never finishing outside the top 3. A prosperous period which calls for others according to the Finn, he who continues his integration at Mercedes.

“I think there are things I can still improve by working with the team as we have done so far. I know that the second part of the season will be better for me and my best performances are yet to come. This is how I so feel it I’m really looking forward to the second half of the year. »
