The idyll continues once again between Valtteri Bottas et Alfa Romeo. This Saturday in qualifying, the Finn set the 5th best time in qualifying. To find traces of the Swiss team in this position on the starting grid, we have to go back to the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in 2019. That year, it was already a Finn who achieved the 5th fastest time in the Qualifying, Kimi Räikkönen.

Before arriving in Q3, the race weekend was not easy for Valtteri Bottas. His crash during Free Practice 1 forced him to shorten his first day of racing and gave his mechanics extra work. “ It was a difficult day yesterday with very few laps, but we did good FP3 and we had clear direction on the settings », explains the Finn

During qualifying, Valtteri Bottas had more successes than Guanyu-Zhou. The Chinese driver was unable to complete his last flying lap and had to settle for 17th place. “ It's a shame for Zhou because I too could have fallen in Q1 », Underlines Bottas who would have been eliminated if Zhou had improved his time. “ I suffered yesterday and I made up for it today, great work from the team to put the car back on the track. It was ultimately my turn to find the right rhythm in this qualifier and I succeeded. »

5th on the grid, Valtteri Bottas is not convinced he can aim higher in the race this evening. “ The Red Bull and Ferrari are in their own league, but with the cars behind us we can really have a good battle. Yes I believe we can beat them Mercedes and McLaren. » This Sunday, Valtteri Bottas will try to obtain a better result than in Bahrain where he finished in 6th place, achieving in the first Grand Prix of the year the best performance for Alfa Romeo since the 2019 season.
