Vandoorne limited by his McLaren in Melbourne

Stoffel Vandoorne will have to move up the positions at the Australian GP to achieve a good result on the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. The pilot McLaren was the victim of a fuel pressure problem forcing him to enter the pits prematurely with only the 18th time of Q1 ahead Lance stroll (Williams) and Jolyon Palmer, even if it will be the Canadian who will start last after being penalized.

“I had to cancel my first two stints because the engine was low on power, explained Stoffel Vandoorne. It's unfortunate because, after FP3, everything was moving in the right direction and I felt comfortable behind the wheel. But it's always difficult to achieve a time when you only have one chance because you don't want to take risks. »

Stoffel Vandoorne harbors even more regrets than his teammate Fernando Alonso was able to secure 13th place on the grid for the Australian GP.

“We still made good progress this weekend. Fernando and I are more comfortable behind the wheel and this confidence allows us to attack more. There is clearly still a lot of work to do, but we can take some positive things from the potential seen so far this weekend and I think we can have a good race tomorrow. »

Stoffel Vandoorne will make his second Grand Prix start after replacing Fernando Alonso in 2016 in Bahrain.
