Vasseur: the team must be impeccable

The eleventh places of Jolyon Palmer in Melbourne and Kevin Magnussen in Bahrain well represent the situation of Renault Sport F1 Team at the start of the season. The French team is on the verge of points and is looking to obtain its first top ten as quickly as possible. The structure ofenstone will have another chance on April 17 with the Chinese Grand Prix contested in Shanghai.

“I can say I’m impressed”, admitted Frédéric Vasseur, competition director of Renault Sport F1 Team. “The team is driven by strong momentum. This does not mean that there are not improvements to be made. As they discover, I am very demanding and we will cover many areas and details. Success in motorsport is not just about one aspect, but about paying attention to the smallest detail. We will move forward with many small improvements. »

If the Frenchman is satisfied with his team, he admits that efforts still need to be made to obtain better results. “We are generally where we expected, but also a little below our ambitions. We all know that our project is for the long term, but we are not going to relax... This is how we will find the success we covet. Regarding race pace, the signs are positive. We are not far from Williams and finish in the points », added Frédéric Vasseur.

“To date we have finished both races being the first car out of the points. Being there is what we need to achieve. To achieve this, we must not only improve performance, but also ensure that our weekends are impeccable in every area”, insisted the operations director of the French team.

Regarding Kevin Magnussen's mistake in missing the weigh-in during practice for the Bahrain GP, which forced him to start from the pits, Frédéric Vasseur does not hold it against him. “We know he now knows the rules of the weigh-in and we believe we will not have the same penalty in the future. »
