Vergne: “It was one problem after another”

Toro Rosso showed much better form last weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix. Jean-Eric Vergne finished each free practice session in the top ten and qualified in 12th position just behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, thus offering the Faenza team to collect new points in Barcelona. If the Australian managed to get the point for tenth place, the Frenchman had a much more eventful race with a puncture and a collision in the pits forcing him to retire while he was fighting on the points gates in the middle race.

“After getting a good start, I found myself having a lot of understeer and we had to add more downforce at each pit stop, which didn't really help”, comments the Frenchman. “We had adopted the right strategy and I managed to set good times despite my damaged wing and flat bottom. I've been unlucky again and I hope it stops soon. I was hit by Hulkenberg which was released too early in the pits and then I had a problem with a tire. It was one problem after another. I plan to have a better weekend in Monaco in two weeks. I have not lost hope for the future given the performances shown earlier. It's just a shame not to have been able to realize this potential with points. »
