Vergne understands Red Bull's decision

Jean-Éric Vergne had to face the press in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock after the announcement of Red Bull on the tenure of Max Verstappen next year. If the Frenchman's disappointment is understandable, JEV wanted to remain professional and always show solidarity to Toro Rosso. “I will always be grateful to Red Bull and Toro Rosso who gave me the chance to continue. I did not have the means to reach the F1 and I walked this journey with them. I spent three years at Toro Rosso. I have achieved many things behind the wheel of their cars and they now offer Verstappen the same luck I had three years ago. Toro Rosso is a team for young drivers and I am too old (24 years old). I understand their decision. »

Despite this disappointment, Jean-Éric Vergne does not lose hope of continuing his career in F1 even if he is aware that the task will be difficult. “Obviously I'm sad because I love this team and I think they're competitive. It's always in difficult moments that you can give your best and that's what I'm going to do during the next eight races. It's still too early to talk about other teams. My performance will be the best help for next year. I deserve a wheel that allows me to win races because I know I can do it. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here. »
