Vergne: “We can do much better on Saturday”

Jean-Eric Vergne hoped to quickly turn the page on the Spanish Grand Prix where the Frenchman accumulated bad luck before finally giving up. The pilot Toro Rosso had a trouble-free first day of testing in Monaco where he set the 17th fastest time (1'17"24) in the second session less than a tenth behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. If the STR8s from the Faenza team are more than two seconds behind Nico Rosberg's reference time, the French driver is hopeful of climbing to a better position in the hierarchy.

“It was a good day where we were able to complete a lot of laps”, explains Jean-Eric Vergne. “On this circuit, the driver's confidence is an important factor and you gain confidence with each lap you complete, feeling that you can attack more each time. My final long stint looked pretty good at the end of the second session. Now we need to put all the best parts together to improve our overall performance. I think we can do much better on Saturday, more than the timesheet suggests so far. »
