Vergne returns to the forefront on the Shanghai grid

Jean-Éric Vergne once again showcased his talent in the rain during qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix. After narrowly qualifying for Q2, the driver Toro Rosso managed to set the ninth time in the last qualifying session between the Force India of Nico Hulkenberg and the Lotus of Romain Grosjean. “I’m very happy with my qualifying, I had a great lap.”, comments JEV. “I am satisfied with my performance in this exercise this season because I managed to set good times without making any mistakes. This car is rather difficult to drive in wet conditions and this Q3 is a great satisfaction for the team and myself. »

The Frenchman will have the opportunity to get back into the points after suffering two consecutive retirements at Sepang and Bahrain. “The forecast is for dry weather tomorrow, which suits our car better. So we can hope for a good race. Our speed seems pretty good over the long runs so I will do my best to get a good start from ninth on the grid. If everything works well, we can definitely aim for the points. »

Jean-Éric Vergne can be all the more satisfied as his teammate Daniil Kvyat could not do better than 13th on the grid. “It was a tough qualifying session and I couldn’t be faster than that even though I gave it my all.”, recognizes the rookie. “It looks like we lost a lot of grip between the last practice session and qualifying and I’m looking forward to diving into the data. I remain disappointed with this day but I think I will be able to have a good race tomorrow, particularly if the weather is dry. »

The start of the Chinese Grand Prix will be given tomorrow at 9 a.m. French time. Photos of the tests can be found on this link.
