Vergne stood out again in the rain

Jean-Eric Vergne often welcomes the rain with a smile. The Frenchman once again put himself at his advantage by taking tenth place on the starting grid for the Monaco Grand Prix. After a disastrous weekend in Barcelona, the pilot Toro Rosso is hopeful of winning important points against his teammate Daniel Ricciardo who will start from 12th position. “I'm quite happy with this first Q3 even if I would have preferred it to continue to rain”, recognizes JEV at the end of the qualifications. “But I was still able to set a good time in the dry as well, but I had to abandon my very last lap because I could no longer improve. I think this is where we should be after improving the car. This proves that we are progressing race after race. »

But the Frenchman will above all seek to achieve a good result to get back on his teammate Daniel Ricciardo who has six more points in the Championship. The French driver who is paying tribute this weekend to François Cévert is confident in an event where he already stood out last year. “I think the performance in race conditions will be better than it was in qualifying. We will therefore aim for a good result, regardless of the weather. Anything can happen on this circuit and we will clearly be hoping for points tomorrow. Having reached Q3 is a good thing but it doesn't offer any points. We will have to stay focused to produce a good performance. »
