Towards the start of the season in Europe and behind closed doors?

Little by little, tongues are loosening about a possible resumption of the World Championship F1. In the process of the postponement of the Canadian Grand Prix, initially scheduled for mid-June, but forced to postpone its outfit in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the possibility of seeing F1 start in Europe is becoming more and more serious.

“Travel for the teams and travel for everyone involved is going to be one of the main issues, comments Ross Brawn, Director of Motor Sports at Liberty Media to Sky Sports.

Our view is probably that a European kick-off will be favorable and it could even be a behind closed doors event. We could have a very closed environment, where teams come on charters, and are channeled to the circuit. We make sure everyone is tested, cleared and there is no risk to anyone.

Having a race without spectators isn't great, but it's better than no race at all. We have to remember that there are millions of people following sports at home. Many of them are isolated and being able to keep the sport alive and entertaining people would be a huge advantage in this crisis we are going through.

We are looking at the organizational structure that would allow us to start as soon as possible. But also the possibility of maintaining this departure. There is no point in starting and then stopping again for a while. »

The sporting manager of the discipline estimates that 19 races starting in July (potentially excluding a start at Paul Ricard in June) remains possible, knowing that eight races must necessarily be contested to validate the championship. The idea of doing two-day weekends is also in the cards.
