Towards a Spanish team in 2021 with Wehrlein and Palou?

If the Panthera file has recently emerged for a possible arrival on the grid F1 in 2021, another candidate would be in the running.

The project initiated by Salvatore Gandolfo and Adrian Campos (who initiated the start of what will be the HRT adventure), both at the helm of Campos Racing, is supported by the Spanish federation and by the Monaco Increase Management (MIM) group, and has already recruited Peter McCool (from the company Shape, former designer of Super Aguri and technical director of Amlin Aguri in Formula E) as technical director.

Ben Wood, passed by Mercedes or even Cheers Grand Prix, as head of aerodynamics, will take on the position of chief aerodynamicist. A first study was launched at the end of July 2019, and the team is already in discussions with several teams and engine manufacturers to secure the best partners.

A meeting with F1 boss Chase Carey took place in Barcelona during the Grand Prix on May 11, and further meetings in London with Ross Brawn were also held on May 15 and July 31.

“Joining the Formula 1 World Championship in 2021 will be a long-term project, underlines Salvatore Gandolfo. We are aware of the great challenges ahead of us, but we have a team of experts working day and night and the financial strength required by the FIA to make this project a success.

With the new budget cap, the new revenue distribution and the new technical and sporting regulations, small teams have a great opportunity to compete and make the FIA Formula 1 World Championship even more interesting and more balanced. »

In terms of pilots, Pascal Wehrlein, currently a simulator pilot Ferrari, and Alex Palou, residents of Super Formula, both managed by MIM, are logically among the potential drivers for this adventure. The young David Vidales could be a long-term solution, he who has shone in recent years in karting.

Such a program would not call into question the commitments of Campos Racing in the pyramid of accession to F1, the commitments in FIA F3 and FIA F2 serving as an entry point as Junior Teams for young talents.
