Verstappen: “We need luck to win”

Max Verstappen is starting to get tired of being told that he is resigned and unmotivated by his season, because he says that it will be almost impossible to win the championship, despite his current second place. He also talked about a boring race at Spa.

« It's stupid to think that, I do a job which is also my passion, I drive super fast cars and I'm second or third in every race and with a victory. So yes I am motivated. Motivated but realistic. »

The pilot Red Bull just look at the numbers. Over seven races, the Mercedes won six, including five for Hamilton and two doubles. In the championship, Verstappen is 47 points behind Lewis Hamilton, almost two victories.

On a regular basis, the Dutchman believes he has almost no chance. “We are not going to give up but I am very realistic, we are too slow. We need luck to win races and return to the championship. At the moment, it looks like we're in the fight but I'm losing more or less seven points in each race. At some point, the gap will inevitably be very large. »

And on the track, Verstappen cannot compete. “Every weekend I try to get the most out of my car and my driving. But we must not delude ourselves. At Spa once again we were half a second slower per lap compared to the Mercedes so we can't really fight at the moment. »

More than his own, he dampens the hopes of followers and spectators in need of suspense.
