Verstappen second after a good comeback: “It’s not easy to progress in the peloton”

Max Verstappen et Red Bull trivialize the extraordinary. The Dutchman once again performed one of his magnificent comebacks to which he is accustomed. Starting from 15th place after his mechanical problem during qualifying, the reigning double world champion outperformed all his competitors... except his teammate, to finally finish in 2nd place in Jeddah.
“It wasn’t easy to progress in the peloton, confided Verstappen at the finish of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. In the first sector, it was difficult to follow each other, I slipped a lot. Once I was getting rid of cars one by one, I found the rhythm. I am very happy to be on the podium. »
A lap record and the championship lead for Verstappen
Max Verstappen had a few scares during the race: complaining of a fragile driveshaft, the Dutchman was under pressure “until the finish!” », he admits. Ultimately, the Red Bull RB19 held on to complete a new double for the Austrian team. The Batavian even had the luxury of setting the fastest lap on the last loop to pick up a point and stay at the top of the championship. “There was such a gap with the car behind that at one point we gave up and settled for 2nd place which, I think, is a nice comeback. I'm happy with that. »
The reigning champion has a one point lead over Sergio Pérez in the championship, after the second race of the season.
