Verstappen on the front row: "I feel in control again"

We last saw him in Japan, particularly critical of the regulations and his own performances. Max Verstappen returned to the top of his game this Saturday during qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix. The only top driver to improve his time on his second run in Q3, the Dutchman will start this Sunday alongside Kimi Antonelli on the front row of the grid. The Austrian team has improved its RB22, notably with the addition of a "macarena" rear wing, very similar to the one tested during the off-season by Classic Ferrari for sale and present this weekend in Miami, the four-time world champion also saw the ergonomics of his cockpit improved.

Without going into details, Verstappen explained that his return to form was therefore due to these two factors, and to the fact that he now feels... "in control of the car"And we know that a Verstappen in control can do a lot of damage in terms of pace… “The car wasn’t great in the first few races, and I never really felt comfortable behind the wheel. In recent weeks, the team has really done its best to make improvements to the car, but also to allow me to feel much better with a lot of things in the cockpit. The results are there, I feel in control of the car again, and I can therefore push a bit harder. Being on the front row is even better than I expected at the start of the weekend.”

Light at the end of the tunnel

While no driver has managed to win the Miami Grand Prix from the front row of the grid since the race's introduction to the calendar in 2022, Max Verstappen is taking it one step at a time, and that starts with the start. The Dutch driver has struggled particularly at the start of the year, and he didn't get a great launch on Saturday in the sprint race either. Furthermore, the forecast of rain and thunderstorms for the fourth round of the season means he's not getting ahead of himself.

"First, we'll get off to a good start! We haven't really had many of those so far this year, and we'll also see what the weather does on Sunday. I'm already very happy with where we are now; there's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm going to try to close the gap even more."

Will Verstappen defy the statistics once again? Find out this Sunday…
