Verstappen takes narrow lead in FP3 in Singapore

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) set the best time in the final practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix by completing a lap of the Marina Bay circuit in 1'41''829, almost a second off the benchmark set in EL2 by his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian, sixth in EL3, was able to set the lap record this Friday, but the rain cleaned the track and reduced grip during the day.

The Dutchman performed well but encountered a gearbox problem at the end of the session. His RB13 nevertheless returned to the track without the problem reappearing.

The top teams are in the game since Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) is the closest to the reference chrono with minus 72 thousandths of delay. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) completed the top three just over a tenth behind the first Red Bull. The Championship leader beat the McLaren de Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, even if the Asturian lost a little time on the track due to a pedal problem.

Nico Hulkenberg placed the first Renault seventh in front Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Sergio Pérez (Force India) who beat his teammate by a tenth Esteban Ocon 11e.

The Toro Rosso follow with Carlos Sainz Jr 12th and Daniil Kvyat 14th, the STR12 surrounding the R.S 17 of Jolyon Palmer. THE Williams are behind with Felipe Massa 15th and Lance stroll 17th behind Kevin Magnussen (Haas) who is ahead of his teammate Romain Grosjean, 18th, by two tenths. The former GP2 champion only preceded the Saubers of Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson. The Swede was the source of a red flag after hitting the wall.
