After six qualifying sessions, it is finally Max Verstappen who has the most pole positions! The four-time world champion once again managed to beat the McLaren, And the Mercedes Kimi Antonelli's test at the Miami circuit. While he has been annoyed by the handling of his RB21 on several occasions this season, the Dutchman has always been at the forefront during all three phases of the qualifying session. This is the result of good work refining the settings between the different sessions. While the cars enter Parc Fermé mode at the start of Q1, small changes, particularly to the front wing's angle of attack, are still possible.
“We managed to improve the car a little bit, which allowed me to take the corners better, to have a little more rotation. We improved with each run, from Q1 to Q2, then from Q2 to Q3. I had a little moment where I lost time in the first corner on the last lap, but it ultimately worked out well. I'm obviously delighted to be on pole.”
The new grid leader explained that in the first corner of his final lap, he faced what could be called a question of conscience. Should he slow down and ensure he exits the corner, or do everything he can to lose as little time as possible? In qualifying, the answer came naturally: "We can slow down, but in qualifying we can't do that, we have to stay flat out and hope it works!"
The best place for a race in the rain?
After a wet sprint, the forecast in Miami indicates that this could be the case again this Sunday. Verstappen is ready no matter what, with an ideal position on the starting grid. With no one in front of him, at least until the first corner, the driver Red Bull will have a clear view, even if he will be the first to discover the track conditions in the first laps...
"We'll see what happens in the race with the weather, but I have the best starting position. The race will be a different story, but we'll make sure we maximize everything."
