Verstappen: We're off to a good start

On a circuit known to be demanding for the engine, the driver Red Bull was the fastest in the first two free practice sessions in Montreal. Results that Verstappen analysis with cautious optimism.

« It was a positive day, we're off to a good start, declared the Dutchman. The car runs well. From the start, the settings were satisfactory and we didn't have to change much. We're still struggling a little when it comes to top speed. We can see this on long relays where Mercedes was very fast. But we're not far ».

Two weeks after a Monegasque weekend dominated head and shoulders by his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, Verstappen doubts Red Bull's ability to achieve a second pole position in a row.

« It will be tough because our rivals are still increasing the pace in Q3, he commented. Us too, but to a lesser extent ».

As for his feelings on the new phase of the engine Renault brought to the banks of the Saint Laurent, the three-time Grand Prix winner preferred to keep it to himself by remaining evasive.

« It's difficult to judge because we're not there yet. We'll know more after qualifying ».
