Verstappen delighted by his debut on the Rock

At the end of the first free practice session in Monaco where the times improved gradually, Max Verstappen did not miss the opportunity to point out a new time. The Dutchman of Toro Rosso offered himself a second time at 149 thousandths of the reference established by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).

“It was a good day today, explains the former Van Amersfoort Racing driver in F3. I started slowly in FP1 because everything was new to me, but I immediately felt good in the car. It gave me a lot of confidence and finishing the morning session in second place is a great feeling. »

Slowed down in his learning of the Monegasque route in the afternoon with the return of the rain, Verstappen nonetheless remained satisfied with his first day in Monaco. “It’s a bit of a shame that the rain came, and we weren’t able to complete as many laps as we wanted, but finished seventh (in the afternoon) isn't that bad. »

If his teammate Carlos Sainz was not a novice on this track, having notably raced there in Formula Renault 3.5 last year, the Spaniard also showed his ease by placing 5th and 6th in the two sessions today.
