Verstappen resigned to “much too fast” Mercedes

He almost laughed out of spite. Max Verstappen despite accomplishing feats at the wheel of a Red Bull RB16 not yet fully optimized, the prices stick relentlessly Mercedes to the competition remain more than salty.

Last Thursday, the Dutchman hoped not to be a full second behind the Black Arrows; However, it is the time gulf that separates the Brackley single-seaters from the best classified from their pursuers in qualifying this Saturday.

« My lap at the end of Q3 was pretty good, even if I had a scare in the last corner; very quickly during the session we nevertheless understood that we were only fighting for 3rd position, commented Verstappen after qualifying practice. The Mercedes are far too fast, and this has been the case for several weekends.

We have to accept this situation and do our best, which corresponds to 3rd place for us at the moment. I'm quite happy with our performance, especially after Hungary where we were 7th. We are still trying to better understand the car ».

Red Bull tested numerous parts again this weekend at Silverstone, in order to erase the aerodynamic anomalies of a car that its teammate Alexander albon could only qualify in 12th place. Despite the progress noted, Verstappen believes that the new creation from Milton Keynes is not yet able to compete with the Mercedes over the distance of a Grand Prix either.

« We are always a little closer on long relays, added Verstappen. I'm not going to tell you that I'm going to fight with them but at least we have a chance to be in the fight ».

We know that the Oranje virtuoso does not need much more to sometimes work miracles.
