Sebastian Vettel, behind Kimi Räikkönen all weekend, managed to qualify on the front row of the Belgian Grand Prix behind Lewis Hamilton. He admits that having benefited from the aspiration of his teammate, who had slowed down following an error, allowed him to achieve this performance.
« I had a very good pace, especially on the last lap, explains Vettel on the grid. And I also had help from a friend. Kimi had to abandon his lap and it was very generous of him to let me suck him into the last sector, which helped me by 2 tenths compared to Bottas."
More generally, the German is satisfied with his qualifying session after slightly more complicated free practice.
« In Q1 I was very happy, the car was perfect. In Q2 it became more complicated. In Q3, on the first lap, I lacked the feeling to be at the front.
« My second lap was better in Q3, and I also had a little help but it wasn't easy to get to the corner, when you know that you have more speed with the aspiration, the phase of braking is more complicated."
Sebastian Vettel qualified more than two tenths off the record set by Lewis Hamilton.
