The German did not improve his mark but continued to work intensively on the track, as did most of the field.

Vettel ends the day at the front, the teams rely on long stints

If the morning was devoted to the quest for a reference time, the second half of the seventh day of winter testing on the Barcelona circuit (Spain) was marked by numerous race simulations.

As proof, we want the number of laps accomplished by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari). The new unofficial record holder of the Catalan track completed a whopping 185 laps between 9 a.m. and 18 p.m., barely two fewer than Max Verstappen (Red Bull), diligent and discreet with a 12th fastest time, more than two seconds behind the Ferrari.

With only half a day of driving, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) crossed the pit straight 84 times. The reigning world champion may have adopted the same training program as his teammate Valtteri Bottas, with an almost equal time and the same tire fit (mediums).

One of the few drivers to have improved his morning time is Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso). The Frenchman moved into third place in the last hour, thanks in particular to his super soft tires, super grippy on the new asphalt in Barcelona. Also note the group shooting of two people Renault, Carlos Sainz Jr taking the seat Nico Hulkenberg with the same rhythm.

The session was finally marked by a brief red flag, waved after Marcus Ericsson's excursion (Alfa Romeo Sauber) in the gravel trap outside turn 4.

The last day of testing will be experienced in real time on our site via live text from 9 a.m.
