Vettel happy with the pace of the Ferraris over one lap, less so over the long stints

Don't count on Sebastian Vettel to ignite after setting the best time in the first free practice sessions for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

On the one hand, the changing and tricky weather conditions do not allow a clear reading of the forces present before qualifying on Saturday. Secondly, the four-time world champion believes that the rivals of the Team maintain the advantage in racing configuration.

« The results are rather correct, the conditions were not obvious to anyone because it was complicated to string together the laps, Vettel reported. We understood what the car needed. It's up to us to improve it now. I think we can do it and we have to do it anyway. Our pace on a flying lap was quite satisfactory but it lacked a little juice on the long stints.

We need more grip and we need to adjust the balance of the car a little differently to ensure we are more competitive in the race simulations. It seems that some are faster than us in these conditions but it is in line with the last Grand Prix weekends ».

We left the Ferraris seriously lacking pace in Austin two weeks ago, with some explaining this decline by the latest technical directives from the FIA on the engine level. Asked if Maranello's double in EL2 was a first step to silence the detractors, Vettel brushed aside these desires for revenge.

« We focus on ourselves, on the job at hand, he added. It's a little sad how people can jump from one conclusion to another in 24 hours but that's how it is. We have to live with it. The best way to do this is to ignore the background noise and focus on your job. ».
