Vettel feared having pole lost by Hamilton

Sebastian Vettel will have a great opportunity to increase its lead in the Championship and secure a first victory at Red Bull Racing on the Montreal circuit since he managed to take pole for the Canadian Grand Prix. In particularly delicate conditions where the times were constantly changing, the three-time world champion was at ease as he set good times allowing him to keep his tires. But the last qualifying session was hotly contested between the German and Lewis Hamilton which evolved at the same pace. The 2008 world champion finally lost by less than a tenth.

“It was really, really difficult.”, commented Sebastian Vettel, who won his third pole of the season and the 39th of his career. “We didn’t know what conditions we were going to encounter in the next round and it was very hard to adapt. We set off for two flying laps in the last qualifying session. We thought the second lap was going to be faster, but it started to drizzle in the last sector. I went straight on the first lap and then made another mistake. So I'm very happy that this first lap was enough because it was very close with Lewis. The last two corners prevented all drivers from improving. We showed good potential in free practice so I'm not too worried weather-wise. »
