Vettel: “We have already made progress”

Sebastian Vettel can be satisfied with his day of testing on the Sakhir circuit which is hosting the Bahrain GP this week. The pilot Ferrari set the second fastest time in EL2, just 11 thousandths behind his teammate Kimi Räikkönen who set the day's benchmark in 1'29''817.

“We seem to be performing better in terms of race pace, but the times were promising even if we can still improve, declared the four-time world champion in the paddock. We were behind in Australia and we were not satisfied with the behavior of the car. We worked in particular on the front part which had bothered me quite a bit in Melbourne. »

“We should still be able to progress on the short and long relays, but we have already progressed. The results were quite variable on the long runs, I think we can do better on this point. We looked more at the limits of the car this evening because we are finding the conditions that we will encounter in the race”, added the Ferrari driver.

Sebastian Vettel was asked to comment on his pole chances in Bahrain following the domination of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in this exercise on the Albert Park circuit.

“Regarding the qualifications, anything can still happen even if the Germans are known to be pessimistic. We always try to prepare for qualifying and the race. If a car is satisfactory in qualifying, it will also be satisfactory in the race”, replied the German pilot.

Sebastian Vettel has twice won pole at the Bahrain GP. If the last one dates back to 2012, he won last year by starting from third row… Behind the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
